Jim Owen

Jim Owen has worked in Hawaii tourism since 1998, from nearly every seat: tour guide, hotel concierge, owner of an Oʻahu tour company for 15 years, and, since 2016, founder and CEO of Coral Crater Adventure Park in Kapolei. He also runs Aloha Answers, which handles reservations and OTA sales for Hawaii tour operators.

He has spent those years doing what he writes about. Jim has sailed to every main Hawaiian Island multiple times and backpacked every multi-day trail the state has to offer. He has hiked its best-known routes along with plenty of lesser-known ones. He has been to most of Hawaii's luaus and logged hundreds of catamaran cruises, shows, bus tours, snorkel spots, museums and national park visits. When VisitHawaii.us recommends something, odds are he has done it and knows which operator does it best.

Beyond Hawaii, he has traveled to more than 85 countries, and the lesson he brings home is simple: popular places are popular for a reason. The key is going at the right time with the right operator.
